The group The Skalls from Italy was founded
in 2004. They started playing in some local bars. The notoriety
of the group grow quickly so that they played concerts in
Italy, Austria and Germany. Their music convinced many people,
also Elliott Murphy, the man who released more than 15 CD’s
as solo-artist and who wrote for many years as a expert
for the most important music publication in the world, the
“Rolling Stone”. The Skalls supported Elliott
Murphy on the stage, but they also played with bands like
The Locos from Spain (Ex Ska-P) and Guadalajara (ska band
nr. 1 in Austria). The Skalls played on stages like the
Hafen, one of the most important concert halls in Austria
and the Kuke in Leoben. In 2006 the group recorded their
first single called “Drain Away”, which was
published on many ska cd’s like for example “Skankin’
Europe”(Alkooliganska Records) and the CD Skartel
(Ruddybeat Records) which contains ska groups out of 10
nations. Furthermore the song Drain Away was choosen for
cd’s that do not only contain ska music, like for
example the CD “Lieder und Gesänge” (The
Rocking Ape Records) which was distributed in Germany with
3000 CD’s.
After the big success of this song in 2007 the single “Blind”
was released, than published by Ruddybeat Records
as opening song of the CD Skartel 2, containing many of
the best ska bands Europe’s. The top musician of the
group is the trombonist Peter Steiner, a young talent who
played in 2007 at “Prima la musica” which is
the contest for the most talentfull musicians of Austria.
There Peter Steiner won at the national Finals the first
price with excellence. In 2007 the first video was recorded.
Only on the Internetplattform Youtube the video was viewed
more than 18.000 times. This was they year where the group
made their first big Tour, The Mary Jane Tour’, where
they played as headliner at different festivals like ‘Rock
im Gorten’ where they played in front of over 1.000
people. The Skalls were nominated for the ‘South Tyrolean
Music Award 2008’ in the category ‘Best Video’
where they reached place 2. Also in 2008 the group reached
the italian national finals of the Bandcontest ‘Local
Heroes’ where they reached place 3.
The band is working on a new CD which will be published
at the 1st of septembre and which has already been orderd
all over the world.
